1st Graders Help Out Meals on Wheels

1st grade students have been asked to help out with a community project. Meals on Wheels is having my students create patriotic designs for the bags that they give their clients on Memorial Day and July 4th. In class we discussed what Meals on Wheels is, what patriotic means, and what kinds of images we could come up with for patriotism. Students had all kinds of ideas like flags, eagles, Uncle Sam, and the Statue of Liberty.

2nd Graders Paint Face Pots

We have been working on clay face pots. I recently fired the dried out clay pots and the students have been painting them this week. We have been using tempera paint which is a thick, creamy paint. The kids have had a lot of fun with it!

The Aliens Have Invaded North Elementary

2nd graders have been studying planets in their classrooms for the past few weeks so we started a project where we make aliens. Each student picked a planet and read a description of the planet and its environment. Then they had to come up with an alien that could survive on the planet they chose. For example, if a student picked a cold planet they might come up with some kind of fire heater or super insulation. After drawing their aliens, they traced their lines with glue. We finished them off by adding chalk pastel. They truly were out of this world artworks!

2nd Graders start Face Pots

In 2nd grade we started a new project this week. We started making face pots by coming up with some drawings of different faces. I also showed them a demonstration about how to make a face pot out of clay. Next week we'll be using clay to create our face pots. This will be very exciting!!!
